We believe in newspapers and their viability as news products. But not as they exist today. They must innovate or die. No medium has ever replaced another. But the disruptive power of the internet and mobile platforms on print is undeniable.
We believe newspapers have to take the word paper out of newspaper. They must become platform-agnostic news brands without losing their core mission: telling good stories, quality journalism and public service.
We advocate that newspapers must now think of themselves not as great newspapers that have good websites but rather great websites that have good newspapers. This means newspapers on paper must become premium products with a different content proposition that goes beyond commodity news.
They must be exquisitely presented, presenting forward journalism that looks at the why and what's next of a story.
They must be more expensive and selective than the mass medium they have been, becoming high-end publications with unique content not found in other platforms.
They must embrace digital platforms and maintain online and on mobile their quality content propositions and turn those platforms into their mass media platforms.
INNOVATION has spent over 15 years helping newspapers make the transition to digital platforms. First online and more recently on mobile.
